Q: Why should I use a professional installer?
At Door Systems, Inc., it is our belief that the installation of a garage door is not a do-it-yourself job. Installation of a garage door involves many small parts and is extremely technical; it is also the largest moving object in your entire house so it's important that it be installed safely and correctly. Making sure the springs are connected correctly is a particular dangerous part of the job and proper installation is critical to the performance of your door. If you are replacing an old door, only a professional installer can offer you the service of disposing of your old door.
Installation experts can commonly install a door in a few hours and are careful to make sure safety requirements are met. When a homeowner tries to install a garage door, it usually takes many days and is a very frustrating project. Additionally, incorrect installation may void your warranty, so we recommend an installation expert do the job for you.
Q: Is 25 gauge steel thicker than 24 gauge steel?
No. When comparing strengths of steel, bear in mind, the lower the gauge number, the thicker (and stronger) the steel is.
Q: Do I need to get an insulated door even if I don't have an insulated garage?
A garage door opening is a very large hole in your garage. Choosing an insulated door will help regulate the temperature inside your garage making it much more comfortable to be in your garage. This is important for a number of reasons:
1. Outside air can travel through your door into your living area if you have an attached garage.
2. If you use your garage as a workshop, your comfort will be a top priority.
3. If your garage is under another room in your home, outside air can go through the ceiling of your garage into the room above through the floor. An insulated door will keep temperatures in the garage fairly stable to reduce the temperature fluctuation in the room.
4. An insulated door is generally quieter and has a more attractive interior than an uninsulated door.
Q: What are the benefits of a steel garage door over a wood garage door?
1. Steel doors are low maintenance. (Typically a wood door must be painted as just as often as the wood trim on your house because of exposure to the elements.)
2. Steel doors have longer warranties than wood doors.
3. Steel doors can be insulated, so they are more energy efficient than wood.
4. We at Door Systems, Inc. have steel doors that are pre-painted and most are available in your choice of four colors. (Wood doors are unfinished or primed, both of which need to be finish painted upon installation.)
Q: Can I keep my old track when I replace my garage door?
We recommend that when you replace your door, you also replace your track because each brand of garage door has been specially designed to work with a specific type of track. Additionally, replacing your track is a low-cost way to guarantee that your entire garage door system is as safe as possible. Getting a replacement track will also be certain that your door warranty still applies, if you should happen to have a problem.
